Attention: Everyone

Probably the best news coming out of NYCC was Dark Horse's announcement of a four issue series from Evan Dorkin & Jill Thompson entitled "Beasts of Burden," continuing the supernatural adventures of the neighborhood pets from the Dark Horse "Book of..." anthologies.

This series is really quite special - effortlessly gliding from hilarious and charming to terrifying and heartbreaking - and is one the best uses of the talking animal schtick anyone has done in a long time.

Some of Dorkin's and Thompson's strongest work - so far seen by an enthusiastic few, but very much deserving of a full on mass pop culture breakout - so do what you can to support the series, and then you can brag that you were there when.

Bambi vs. Google

Sadly, Bambi loses again.
In upstate New York, a street view car hit a baby deer on Five Points Road - and then recorded the whole thing on Google Maps. Nobody noticed until, well, someone noticed, prompting a Daily What blog post, floods of traffic, and then a sequence of five street-level pictures being removed from the site.

Paging Dr. Brigham

Space elevator ... and the next floor is outer space

An elevator ride into space could become more than sci-fi fantasy, thanks to a British breakthrough

Ever since it was first popularised by Arthur C Clarke, the idea of a “space elevator” has languished in the realms of science fiction. But now a team of British scientists has taken the first step on what could be a high-tech stairway to heaven.

Teach Your Children Well

Ung Pirat, or ‘Young Pirate’, is the youth organization associated with the Swedish pirate party. Yesterday it was a big day for the group, getting 1,325,744 Swedish Krona (Approx €121,900, or $161,700 US) from the national board for youth affairs. The amount is based on a membership count of around 1280 members, but with current membership of around 4,872, next years amount should be even greater.

Giving money to terrorists! Well I never!

Who Pays the Paymasters?

Picture Disc?

Although I am made uneasy by the sight of Watchmen Hoodies, this piece of swag gets credit for being era-appropriate.

May Glycon forgive me...

Getting Behind Your Product

Because you openly advertize that it blows chunks.

"'4d' if you're wasted," indeed.

Not as wasted as the exec who thought that tagline was "edgy" and "hip," though.
