Holy Crap!

By the Blessed name of Creosote

"It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department,"
- Atty General Eric Holder

So let me get this straight, "I was only following orders" is now a viable defense in the United States?

Somebody fetch me a bucket.

I'm going to puke.

"It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect Germany for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the SS,"
- - Ernst Kaltenbrunner
(the above quote is satire, for the irony impaired)

Shocked I Tell You, Shocked!

Jindal's staff now admits that that actually didn't happen. Instead of being there and being part of the story, Jindal's reps now admit that days later Jindal overheard Lee telling the story to someone else. And Jindal retold the story he'd been told while inserting himself into it as part of the story.

Jindal Moonlights As Devilslayer

"in an essay Jindal wrote in 1994 for the New Oxford Review, a serious right-wing Catholic journal, Jindal narrated a bizarre story of a personal encounter with a demon, in which he participated in an exorcism with a group of college friends. And not only did they cast out the supernatural spirit that had possessed his friend, Jindal wrote that he believes that their ritual may well have cured her cancer."

This Just In

SHANGHAI (AFP) – A married Chinese tycoon who could no longer afford to support his five mistresses during the economic slowdown held a contest to decide which one to keep, local media reported Tuesday.

The contest took a tragic turn when one of the mistresses, who was eliminated based on her looks, drove her former lover and the four other women off a mountain road in an apparent fit of anger, the Shanghai Daily reported.

Attention: Everyone

Probably the best news coming out of NYCC was Dark Horse's announcement of a four issue series from Evan Dorkin & Jill Thompson entitled "Beasts of Burden," continuing the supernatural adventures of the neighborhood pets from the Dark Horse "Book of..." anthologies.

This series is really quite special - effortlessly gliding from hilarious and charming to terrifying and heartbreaking - and is one the best uses of the talking animal schtick anyone has done in a long time.

Some of Dorkin's and Thompson's strongest work - so far seen by an enthusiastic few, but very much deserving of a full on mass pop culture breakout - so do what you can to support the series, and then you can brag that you were there when.

Interview with Evan (and more art) here : http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=19889

Bambi vs. Google

Sadly, Bambi loses again.
In upstate New York, a street view car hit a baby deer on Five Points Road - and then recorded the whole thing on Google Maps. Nobody noticed until, well, someone noticed, prompting a Daily What blog post, floods of traffic, and then a sequence of five street-level pictures being removed from the site.
